The principal owner & president, Timothy D. Turner Sr, PLS, has over 30 years of experience as a Land Surveyor.  He started working in his father’s small surveying firm in the foothills of North Carolina in 1972.  He tells stories of working in his dad’s office as a young teen, behind his home, doing long hand calculations and drawing survey plats while his buddies were bagging groceries at the local supermarket. Some claim he was born with a plum bob in his hand.

After working for several firms in North Carolina, Idaho, Texas and Tennessee, Tim returned home in 1984 to start his first firm, Catawba Land Surveys, PA in Newton, NC.  After meeting the late Neil A. King, PE, in Charlotte, they paired together offering their surveying and engineering services to the development community in Charlotte, NC.  Tim moved his business to Charlotte in late 1985.   He and Neil merged their two firms and formed ESP Associates, PA, in October 1986.   Neil lost his life in an automobile accident in November 1987.   Tim continued the firm as sole owner.

As the co-founder and past owner/president of  ESP Associates they initially offered Land Planning, Civil Engineering and Land Surveying services, adding Landscape Architecture and Geotechnical/Soils Testing Engineering as the firm continued to grow and diversify.  He built the firm to a staff of 160 employees, with offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, before he sold ESP to 4 key employees who were instrumental in helping him build the firm to such success.

Tim founded WNC Land Surveyors, PLLC in 2004, added Civil Engineering services in 2007, and changed the name to WNC Professional Engineers & Surveyors.    WNC PE&S is a registered PE/PLS firm in North and South Carolina and a member of the Western North Carolina Green Building Council.

Tim brings his unique experience of managing a large multi-disciplined firm to   WNC PE&S.   This experience allows his firm to become a vital “TEAM MEMBER” with the outstanding Land Planning, Architectural, Landscape Architecture, and Geotechnical Engineering firms in Western North Carolina.  He provides a proven track record of contributing to the success of his clients, thereby making him successful.
